FS: A Gift for Poshita*

FS: A Gift for Poshita*

“Did you hear what Poshita* got?” declared Sami.

Her best friend, Flat Sujata shook her head, “No.”

“She got a doll!”

“Who’s Poshita?”

“How can you not know, Poshita?” inquired Sami incredulously. “She’s only the most loved girl in all of Mukti!”

“I thought that was you,” teased Flat Sujata.

“You are hopeless,” huffed Sami. “Poshita’s mother is one of ‘those’ ladies…”

“What ladies?”

“Flat Sujata! Let me tell you,” Sami declared, rolling her eyes. “Poshita’s mother is in a tough spot and does things she shouldn’t. Since Poshita is special needs it made it doubly hard for her mother.”

“I would think it would be hardest on Poshita,” Flat Sujata mused.

“Well, yes. But her mother thought she had it worst. Anyway,” continued Sami, “She wasn’t happy about the situation and let it be known. Someone heard about this and suggested Poshita be brought to Mukti.”

“That’s great, but what does that have to do with a doll?”

“You didn’t know about Poshita so I’m telling you her origins,” Sami replied, slightly flustered.

“Oh, okay,” mumbled Flat Sujata, “just tell me about the doll.”

“Poshita has Down Syndrome….”

“What’s that, Sami?”

“I don’t know. I’m not a doctor. Do you want me to tell you about the doll?”

“Well, I need to know what’s Poshita’s problem,” responded Flat Sujata.

“She doesn’t have a problem, she is just a little different than you. You’re flat!”

“Oh.”

“People with Down syndrome are usually very happy and very helpful, but they can’t always speak clearly or go to regular schools.”

“The doll?”

“I’m getting there, Flat Sujata!”

“Well, hurry. It is almost lunch time,” smiled Flat Sujata.

“Poshita,” Sami declared huffily, “is super good at dancing and playing the bongo’s.”

“Yes, I’ve heard her in church.”

“Then you know her!”

“Of course,” declared Flat Sujata.

“But you said….oh, never mind.”

“The doll.”

“She is always helping, and is a good leader too, plus she’s so good with music. So, her house mother got her a new doll.”

“Is that all?”

“Yeah.”

“Why didn’t you just start with that?” asked Flat Sujata.

“Because I wanted to tell you everything.”

“I think Poshita has an excellent opportunity to do really well at Mukti,” declared Flat Sujata. “Like me, that wasn’t her hope before she came to Mukti. Thanks for telling me about Poshita, Sami!”

Sami just rolled her eyes at her best friend.
